Moonshot Compost Joins the North Texas Innovation Alliance

North Texas Innovation Alliance is excited to share that Moonshot Compost, innovative Texas-based Commercial and Residential Compost Service, has officially joined our ecosystem!

Since 2020, Moonshot Compost has worked to collect food waste that may end up in landfills and is working to help businesses, schools, and organizations meet their sustainability goals and continue to show the impact food composting is making on the environment first-hand.

Through data-driven services, they’ve been able to – since day one – clearly outline their results with over 255,000 pounds of CO2 saved in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Waco area alone.

Continuing Sustainability Education & Growth

By joining NTXIA, Moonshot Compost, will gain access to a network of experts and leaders from government, public, and private sectors. Being part of this collaborative network, Moonshot Compost hopes that through joining NTXIA, they will bring more long-term solutions and be able to educate communities on the sustainable impact food composting has in the region.

This new member addition continues to show NTXIA’s commitment to enhancing their sustainability efforts in the region to enhance quality of life, safety, public health, and welfare of residents through a data-driven approach.

“Many of us have faced the personal dilemma of asking ourselves where our food waste should go,” said Co-Founder of Moonshot Compost Joe Villa. “We quickly realized that there had to be a better solution and founded Moonshot Composting. We know many NTXIA members and residents of the North Texas region also may have this dilemma in their home, and hope that our knowledge of this can better help understand what we believe is an innovative solution.”

Sustainability is a key factor in smart city innovation and growth. With Moonshot Compost’s presence as a member, NTXIA hopes to enlighten members and the region on the effects food waste has in the environment and how Moonshot Composting is a clear example of long-term solutions to greenhouse gas emissions.

“NTXIA prides itself in continuing our commitment to fostering collaboration and adoption of new innovations to strengthen the North Texas region,” said Jen Sanders, Executive Director of North Texas Innovation Alliance. “A key part of our organization is building strategies that create a better tomorrow, and with Moonshot Compo, we see a clear approach to this initiative in bringing long-term solutions.”

With a mission to transform the way society thinks about excess food – to see it not as trash but as a resource – Moonshot Compost recognizes that the easier it is to compost the more likely people are to try it and continue it in the long run.

“We had been looking for an organization for some time that not only brought the community together but pushed for action-based solutions to drive change,” said Co-Founder of Moonshot Compost Chris Wood. “We’re excited for this next chapter in our movement for sustainability by joining NTXIA and can’t wait to begin creating change and educating the North Texas region and members on the importance of food composting.”

Looking Ahead

As part of NTXIA, Moonshot Compost will benefit from direct engagement with industry leaders, offering unique opportunities for collaboration and help in creating key projects that will extend throughout the North Texas region to better set a foundation for sustainable strategies with their extensive knowledge in the industry. Through both organizations’ innovative perspectives, they hope to continue bringing awareness to the issue and create a positive and clear impact in the region.
